![]() ![]() This cookbook is a great resource for experienced healthy eaters looking for inspiration for unprocessed, clean eating. This would be a good book to preview online or through the library to see if it's a good fit, but all in all it seems like a great cookbook. Other recipes were equally intriguing (jalapeno pumpkin waffles? I'm only 25% creeped out and 75% intrigued!). I was intrigued by the green smoothie pancakes, though I'd have to make my own version as hers use spelt flour. ![]() My 12 y/o is allergic to gluten and oats (yes, even gluten free oats, as are about 25% of folks with Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance). I was a little discouraged by the breakfast section since almost every recipe involved oats. The book seems like a good balance between honestly healthy but not devoid of any taste or familiar sweetness, fats, etc. Most are dairy free and most are vegetarian. Many of the recipes are gluten free, though lots use spelt flour instead (which has gluten). It's divided into sections like breakfasts, salads, plates, sweets, etc. This is a nice cookbook filled with a variety of recipes and lots of color photos (about 2/3 of the recipes have a photo, perhaps more, and there are copious amounts of photos of the author looking pretty while holding limes and things like that). The recipes are a pretty good twist and while I was disappointed to not see the nutritional facts, it does put more emphasis on eating for enjoyment and health rather than tracking everything going in. Overall, I really liked this book, its layout, the beautiful photos of the food, and the numbered instructions. Her 'healthnut tips' are interesting and fairly new to me. I also appreciate that she has 'rise and sine breakfast cookies' - something healthy, easy to make, and healthy to grab on the go. ![]() Some items were surprising (Specialty Items - herbal coffee - what?!). I liked her list of 'What's in My Pantry' that I was able to compare against mine - and I was pleasantly surprised to see how similar they were which gave me more confidence in trying out her recipes. I still have a hard time eating breakfast and would much prefer running off of coffee (which is unhealthy but something Nikole mentions) yet knowing so many out there do the same and can change is a positive influence. As I get older and more focused on overall health rather than a specific weight/size, reading healthy approaches to food (instead of fad diets) are so much more valuable to me. Nikole's holistic approach to healthy eating is fantastic. Recipes Jalapeno Pumpkin Waffles, Curry Mushroom Spinach Omelet, Blueberry Basil Smoothie, Everyday Nut and Seed Loaf, Grilled Vegetable Salad with Chimichurri, Salmon Burgers with Pineapple Salsa, Spiralized Zucchini Nests with Poached Eggs, Roasted Poblano and Mushroom Fajitas, Bananas foster Caramelized Crepes, Key Lime Pie in a Jar, and more. Taking readers through breakfast, nourishing drinks and snacks, salads, plates and bowls, sweets, and HealthNut staples including a wide range of Condiments and Sauces, Herbs and Spices, Nuts and Seeds, Goncalves offers everything any reader may need to incorporate healthy, enjoyable meals into their day-to-day lives. Nearly all of the recipes can be prepared in 30 minutes or less, and the 4-week meal prep guide provides readers with a roadmap for sustaining healthy, time-saving cooking habits. ![]() In The Everyday HealthNut Cookbook, each recipe is made with a combination of plant-based and meat options with easy substitutions for vegan and gluten-free diets. The new shot, when turned into a silhouetted graphic, would go on to become the iconic Jumpman logo. This was the shoot where Jordan would recreate a pose he'd struck in a 1984 photograph taken by Jacobus Rentmeester for LIFE magazine. Instead, the sneakers had a simple "AIR JORDAN" wordmark in its place. Photographer Chuck Kuhn and Jordan did a two-day shoot in Chicago with both colorways, but the sneakers were yet to feature the classic Wings logo. "Michael, unless you can get the Chicago Bulls to change their colors to Carolina blue, those are going to be your colors," came Strasser's reply.Īccording to sneaker collector and former ProServ employee Kris Arnold, Nike’s original plan was for two primary Air Jordan colorways: a white/black/red colorway (now known as the “Black Toe”) for home games and black/red for road games (now commonly referred to as the “Bred”). “I can't wear that shoe - those are the devil’s colors,” he's reported to have said in reference to his college team's hated local rivals NC State. Jordan himself had reservations about his new shoes' color combination. It was a team game, and it was understood that on-court sneakers shouldn't be too flashy. Did he think he was better than everyone else? Back then, NBA players wore primarily white sneakers with one additional color to match their team's jersey. The Bulls' management was also worried about the message Jordan was sending by standing apart through his color choices. As the story goes, Jordan would be fined $5,000 every time he wore a non-color-code-compliant sneaker on the court, with Nike picking up the tab. NBA commissioner David Stern didn't take kindly to the footwear breaking the league's "uniformity of uniform" rule, wherein players had to wear shoes that matched both their team's uniform and their teammates' kicks, and the league sent a letter to Strasser confirming that "the wearing of certain red and black NIKE basketball shoes" was prohibited. Pushing boundaries from the get-go, Jordan wore a primarily black and red Air Ship in a preseason game against the New York Knicks on October 18, 1984. ![]() The New York Times didn't even mention college player of the year Jordan until near the end of its draft report. Big men Hakeem Olajuwon (Houston Rockets) and Sam Bowie (Portland Trail Blazers) were selected before Jordan, mainly because teams back then prioritized centers more than guards. In 1984, the Chicago Bulls selected Michael Jordan as the third overall pick in the NBA Draft. As sneaker culture continues to flourish, becoming a multi-billion-dollar worldwide phenomenon, it’s worth taking a look back at how a fairly simple sneaker made of red, white, and black leather influenced everything from the game of basketball to fashion and modern-day marketing. Every passing year, the legend of the man that made the Air Jordan 1 famous becomes larger and more fantastic. The story of the Nike Air Jordan 1 is complex and full of intricate details. This point is important because it exposes scale’s two histories: one as a mentifact tied to the human condition, justice, and value, and the other as a representational device that aides in transforming three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional form. I argue that what was missing from the scale debates was that cartographic scale is not the oldest form of scale rather, scale as a mentifact predates its use in cartography. exactly scale means, its degree of usefulness, or whether it even exists, the continued use of scale has nevertheless become stigmatized or even blacklisted from the vernacular of human geography.
